Cerebrolysin: Neurotrophic Peptide Blend
A blend of low-molecular-weight neuropeptides that mimics the activity of neurotrophic factors such as BDNF and GDNF. What the studies in stroke and dementia show.
What Cerebrolysin is
Cerebrolysin is a standardized preparation of low-molecular-weight peptides and free amino acids obtained by enzymatic proteolysis of porcine brain protein (Ever Pharma). It is not a single peptide, but a blend with neurotrophic activity.
Neurotrophic activity
Its proposed mechanism is to mimic the action of endogenous neurotrophic factors (BDNF, GDNF, NGF): supporting neuronal survival, neuroplasticity and repair, along with antiapoptotic effects and modulation of neuroinflammation.
Published studies
It has been investigated in acute ischemic stroke, vascular dementia, Alzheimer's disease and traumatic brain injury. Meta-analyses show signals of functional benefit in some contexts, with heterogeneity across studies.
Dosing context
In trials it is administered by the IV or IM route in cycles. This is descriptive context from the literature, not a clinical recommendation.
